Position Details:
GENERAL SUMMARY: This is a two-year term position with eligibility
for telework. The primary responsibilities include creating
visually appealing and compelling designs for both print and
digital media. The role involves managing all graphic design tasks,
refining projects and drafts, and generating creative ideas. The
Senior Graphic Designer will utilize their expertise in color
theory, typography, digital media, and layout to enhance brand
consistency and user engagement, while also developing visual
solutions across multiple platforms.
POSITION SUMMARY: This is a 2-year term NEASO position and is
eligible for telework with manager approval per the terms of the
Collective Bargaining Agreement. The primary responsibilities of
this position include the design and creation of original graphic
art for print media, websites, or multimedia projects. The
incumbent develops project concepts and production schedules with
clients and discusses delivery methods, audience, message, vehicle,
budget, and product(s) - projects include logos, project
identities, trade packaging, brochures, catalogs, and book cover
designs. The incumbent works with outside vendors to produce ad hoc
projects. The incumbent prepares job specifications, sends
completed digital files to prepress or print vendors, reviews and
evaluates color corrections, evaluates proofs (bluelines, digital
proofs, and matchprints) for accuracy, and directs necessary
corrections to ensure that work meets NEA standard specifications.
This position also collaborates with other graphic artists and
production personnel to design and produce projects. To carry out
duties and responsibilities, the incumbent uses a variety of
programs such as Adobe InDesign, Quark Express, Adobe Photoshop,
Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Figma, and other appropriate software and
digital design tools. In addition, the incumbent travels
occasionally.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Bachelor of Arts degree in Graphic
Design, Multimedia Design, Visual Communication, or related field,
or demonstrated equivalent combination of experience and training
from which comparable knowledge and skills may be obtained. MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS: At least six years of progressively responsible
professional experience in print and digital skill sets and
technical proficiency in modern graphic design. At least six years
of experience designing compelling print and digital layouts for
use across multiple platforms ranging from print to digital.
Demonstrated mastery of design software such as Adobe Creative
Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and digital design tools
is expected. Understanding of print, digital processes, and file
preparation is also required to ensure designs are accurately
produced. Adept at conceptual thinking and problem-solving with the
ability to generate innovative ideas and translate abstract
concepts into visual representations. Demonstrated ability to
dissect a creative brief, identify the core message, and solve
design challenges that align with the project's goals. Strong sense
of design and aesthetics. This encompasses understanding color
theory, typography, composition, and visual hierarchy. Demonstrated
ability to create assets that are not only visually appealing but
also communicate the intended message effectively. OTHER
REQUIREMENTS: Must be capable of working alongside other
professionals such as copywriters, digital strategists, and event
producers, ensuring a cohesive and coordinated approach to
projects. Interest or experience in animation and motion graphics
is a plus. Must be able to occasionally work extended hours on
evenings and weekends. Samples of work products (i.e., portfolio)
are required at the time of the interview. Occasional travel
required (10 - 15 overnights) per year.
SELECTION CRITERIA: TIER 1 (Essential): Demonstrated experience on
Mac and PC Platforms. Proven expertise in major design page layout
software programs (InDesign, PhotoShop, Prez, and Illustrator).
Proven design and production experience working in a
deadline-oriented, professional publishing environment with
writers, editors, graphic artists, illustrators, production
specialists, and printers. Demonstrated knowledge of four-color
print production processes including pre-press trapping and
dot-gain, color management, paper stocks and their applications,
finishes and coatings, and commercial printing press
configurations. Proven conceptual development skills, layout
ability, and illustration/comping skills. Effective analytical,
interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work
independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Demonstrated a high level of professional knowledge and design
skills. Demonstrated experience handling a wide range of creative
assignments. Demonstrated flexibility and effectiveness in handling
multiple and complex projects simultaneously under stringent
timeframes and changing priorities/conditions. Successful
references. TIER 2 (Significant): Experience in designing and
creating animations and multimedia products using tools such as
Flash, Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, MacroMedia
Director and other appropriate software and graphics tools. MS
Office skills. TIER 3 (Desirable): Experience negotiating printing
specifications and costs with clients and external vendors.
Knowledge of the Mail and Direct Mail industry. Demonstrated
experience performing general office functions, e.g., record
keeping, filing, etc. Knowledge of the NEA's programs and
policies.
